From the 8th June 2015 the paper counterpart to the photocard driving licence will become invalid and will no longer be accepted when hiring a vehicle. Any points or endorsements you may have will now be stored electronically.
Please note: if you have an old style paper driving licence this will remain valid and should be used as normal.
So what do I need to do to hire a vehicle after the 8th of June?
From the 8th June the DVLA introduces a brand new system called Share my Driving Licence which will eliminate the need to present the paper counterpart part of your photocard licence. This service will require you to download an access code that you bring along with you to the branch when collecting your vehicle. By giving us your access code you are granting permission for us to log in to the DVLA and view your licence details.
The access code will only be valid for 72 hours and can only be used once. This means that you must log in and get your code no earlier than two days before you are due to collect your vehicle. When hiring a vehicle you must still bring along the photocard part of your driving licence.
If you require any assistance with this new requirement our staff will be more than happy to help. Please call on 0141 771 3990.
